Symbols/themes

group meets Wed night, then of course watching the sox kick ass and win the world series since 1917.. and swept. yikes! GO SOX!!
Symbols:
1-The first symbol that is an obvious symbol is the gay pride rainbow. Every time I go to a meeting it is presented. Even if it is on only one person the point is that it’s their symbol. They are gay and proud of whom they are. This symbol is expressed a lot throughout the gay community. The different colors represent the diversity and multiculturalism embraced by the gay and lesbian movement. I think this symbol is very important as signing something with meaning.
2-I feel that piercings on the girls is another symbol. The majority of the girls have an abundance of piercings. It’s weird because in a way it’s kind of like stereotyping. But all the girls DO have piercings. In a way it’s kind of like their trade mark. Although each one is different and unique in their own way.
3- Q-force actually has a logo which is a big pink triangle (which is upside down where the point faces down) behind the letters Q and F. The pink triangle stands for back when World War I was going on the Nazi’s used this symbol to identify homosexual men in concentration camps. It’s exactly like the Jews who had to wear a gold star back in World War II. It just represents who they are.
4- The red ribbon is a symbol of all the people who was lost to AIDS. Another symbol dealing with AIDS is taking the gay pride flag and adding a black stripe at the bottom which is for everyone who was hit by the AIDS epidemic. They say that when there is a cure for AIDS all of the flags with the black stripe on the bottom should be burned. Hence the AIDS virus being diminished which I think is an awesome idea.
5- “Bear” which is a term used for a gay man with an abundance of body hair. Usually found on his face and his chest. Usually bears are found to be much older and chubbier. Therefore, there is also a bear flag which symbolizes this type of gay men. It was part of a discussion in Q-force so I thought it would be considered a symbol because in a way it shows meaning and I guess would be considered a stereotype.
Themes:
1-Something that the group usually tries to do is get together sometime during the week or weekend and hang up Q-Force signs around campus. They want to get this organization as many members as they possibly can! Basically they try to go out and promote kids to join the organization. It will definitely help the group, especially if they do it together because it looks very team work oriented.
2- Usually every other wed when they usually meet, instead of having a discussion each person or whoever wants to bring movies can. They call this their “gay movie night.” They bring homosexual movies in and just watch them together. I think it’s cool because it’s an awesome bonding experience since they all have a lot in common! Although I couldn’t attend last Wednesday’s movie night, I will plan on attending one. I would like to see what it is first hand rather then just hearing about everyone talk about it during discussion.
3- Another theme could be that these individuals are “always coming out.” They express desire, want, and need openly within one another. The theme is trust and openness. This is their comfort zone where people understand them for who they are. They discuss and tell each other almost everything which is awesome. When your in that kind of environment you should be able to feel like your in your comfort zone. So good for them.
4- Most of the members of this group feel that they aren’t treated equally. This is the theme of the group. Most of the majority thinks that life is unfair and unjust. I openly agree with them. I believe it is a theme because it keeps being brought up more then once in conversation. This is always an issue and although it is out of their control (anyone’s for that matter) they are still disturbed with it. As well as I am.
5- Most of the students have bracelets on. More like the friendship bracelets. I feel like this is some sort of a trend within this group. I rarely see those bracelets but yet I find them on almost everyone. Also, the way some of the men talk is rather interesting. Just the sound of their voice is way different then a typical guy sounds. It’s much more feminine and higher. I always wondered about that. The words that come out of their mouths are usually so articulate too. I love it

This was fairly hard for me... don't know why?
